About Us


The University of Physical Education in Krakow (commonly known as AWF) is equipped with a library information system with the Main Library as its core. The Library is an all-school organisational unit which renders didactic and research services, and at the same time it is also a public scientific library.

 

History


In 1927, a Physical Education College was founded at the Faculty of Medicine at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, which boasted a book collection amounting to 698 volumes then. In 1950, the College was transformed into the Higher School of Physical Education, its library became the Main Library of the Higher School of Physical Education, and since 1972 it has been the library of the University of Physical Education in Krakow.

 

Collections


The subject matter of the collections is in accordance with the University profile. The collection of the Library (books, journals and periodicals, special collections) includes the following fields: physical culture, physical education, sport, anthropology, biology, biomechanics, biochemistry, physiology, hygiene and health education, motor rehabilitation, sports medicine, tourism and leisure, sightseeing, biological regeneration, ecology, history, sociology, pedagogy, sports, physical education, tourism and rehabilitation psychology and economics.

The Library collection amounts to over 100 000 volumes of books, professional journals and periodicals.
